Designing an Effective Logo

by Admin ~ September 17th, 2008

In order for you to effectively promote your products, they must be easily identified. A logo design goes a long way for your company and one that is designed correctly captures attention and gives your company long lasting appeal.

Designing an Effective Logo

1- Unless you are a professional graphic designer, do not try to design a logo yourself. Your logo will represent your company as a whole and will be used in all of your marketing materials including business cards, signs, and letterheads. Spend the extra money and hire a professional to make sure your logo meets expectations.

2- Find a designer who understands what you want and what your company does. Good communication and understanding between you and your designer will go a long way to get that perfect logo designed.

3- Do not try and base your logo on a trend. Trends are great for the moment but your logo should be able to stand the test of time. The worst thing that could happen to your company is if your logo becomes outdated.

4- Make sure that your logo is appealing to your target audience. If you are trying to market to professional businessmen, make sure your logo is high-class and sophisticated. Tailor your logo to match what your company does.

5- Keep your logo as simple as possible. Remember that there is a difference between a logo looking good on a webpage and one looking good in print. The cleaner the design the better the chance that your logo will make the transition from a website to print smoothly.

6- Don’t decide on your final logo all by yourself! Get your friends, spouse, and other family members involved! Show them the concepts presented to you by your designers and ask them to pick their favorite.

7- Make sure that your business name and sell line are integrated into your logo smoothly. This will increase the chances of your customers remembering your company and what it represents.

8- Make sure your logo works in black and white as well as it does in color. If you ever need to send faxes or e-mails this will be a very crucial thing. If you really want to make sure it looks good, send a couple of test e-mails or faxes to some relatives to see how the finished product looks in black and white.

9- Most importantly, make sure your design is unique. Ex. If your company is in Florida don’t put an orange in your logo. Find something that is attractive and appealing but that it is also your own. Never try to rip off another logo or create something very similar to another company. You want your logo to represent your company and your company alone.
